OVERVIEW

This 9,200 SF project consisted of the renovation and expansion of the prestigious Nora Eccles Harrison Cardiovascular Research and Training Institute (CVRTI) at the University of Utah. A laboratory known for its groundbreaking cardiovascular research.

The expansion included the construction of a steel and concrete structure basement plus two-story addition. It features a brick facade that compliments the historical ambiance of the Fort Douglas area on campus. The expansion facilitates a spacious 26-freezer farm and increased laboratory and administrative space.

Throughout the existing building, the HVAC system was upgraded to a Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) system, allowing for separate climate control in each room.

Given the historical significance of the Fort Douglas area on campus, remnants of past structures were uncovered during excavation for the addition. The Gramoll team collaborated with archaeologists at the University of Utah to ensure the findings were properly documented and preserved before resuming construction.
