OVERVIEW
The Electric Vehicle and Roadway (EVR) ASPIRE project at Utah State University is a cutting-edge facility designed to advance wireless charging technology for electric vehicles. This 25,000 SF masonry structure expansion enhances the existing research center, providing essential office and meeting spaces to support the growing research team.
A key feature of the EVR facility is its complex electrical system, which allows researchers to test various wireless charging concepts for potential use in open roadways nationwide. The facility includes large truck bays specifically designed for testing new charging technologies, accommodating a range of vehicle sizes.
To improve testing capabilities, the project also expanded the existing oval track by adding lanes 1 and 3, along with new straight lanes on the east side. This expanded track enables comprehensive evaluations of wireless charging systems under different conditions.
With a power capacity of 750 kW and modular charging pads embedded in the track, the EVR facility stands out as one of the only research centers in the nation focused on stationary inductive power transfer. Gramoll Construction’s work on this project significantly enhances Utah State University’s position at the forefront of electric vehicle charging infrastructure research and development.
